Manager – Commercial (Dry Bulker Business)

Job Responsibilities

The Manager – Commercial (Dry Bulker Business) will report to the DGM – Dry Bulker Business and will be responsible for driving commercial activities for dry bulk carriers and multipurpose (MPP) vessels while maximizing business opportunities and profitability.

The responsibilities include:


  • Identify, develop, and secure cargo opportunities for dry bulk carriers and multipurpose vessels operating in the Indian Ocean region.

  • Fix full and part cargoes for bulk carriers and MPP vessels while optimizing vessel utilization.

  • Evaluate vessel suitability, cargo stowage, and space planning for commodities including steel products, project cargo, heavy machinery, and other breakbulk cargo.

  • Prepare voyage estimates including Port Disbursement Accounts (PDA), port costs, bunker consumption, canal transit costs, and overall voyage economics.

  • Negotiate freight rates, charter party terms, and commercial conditions to maximize profitability.

  • Execute time charter-out opportunities for owned or controlled vessels.

  • Evaluate and manage counterparty risks involving charterers, owners, operators, brokers, and customers.

  • Monitor vessel movements, cargo readiness, and market developments to ensure smooth commercial execution.

  • Conduct continuous shipping market analysis and provide periodic market intelligence, forecasts, and commercial recommendations.

  • Calculate voyage profitability, monitor contract performance, and optimize commercial returns.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with cargo owners, freight forwarders, brokers, charterers, and other stakeholders across the supply chain.

  • Support cargo claims, freight collection, dispute resolution, and timely commercial closure of voyages.

  • Promote and comply with the company's Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) policies and corporate values.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate should possess:


Mandatory

  • Bachelor's Degree.

  • 5–8 years of relevant experience in dry bulk, breakbulk, project cargo chartering, operators' desk, owners' desk, or shipbroking.

  • Strong knowledge of voyage chartering, time chartering, vessel chartering-in and chartering-out.

  • Hands-on operational experience in commercial shipping.

  • Experience in identifying and securing suitable multipurpose or heavy-lift vessels for project cargo requirements.

  • Sound understanding of voyage estimation, freight negotiations, and charter party management.

  • Strong analytical capability with commercial acumen and market awareness.

Preferred

  • Master's Degree in Management with specialization in Shipping or qualification from the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS).

  • Experience using IMOS, AXSMarine, Netpas, or similar commercial shipping systems.

  • Strong market analysis, negotiation, and relationship management skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Age between 35–40 years.
